We are in the middle of a 40-year (not 40 day) planet remaking, life reconstructing, technology infused deluge. A great flood of robotics, artificial intelligences, bio-coding, pharma-induced healing, the digitalization of perception, the collapsing of daily life inside screens, unthinkable weaponry, and the connecting of all people to all things will change everything and everyone forever.
Everything we now make is aware, sensing, responsive — alive. How are humans differently alive? This now becomes the fundamental question of our age.
Hacking mortality will be the biggest industry of the next 3 generations.
I often write entire posts using only one sentence because that makes it harder for the AI to displace me.
Belief in magic, religion, in spirituality and God will accelerate — and deepen — because of, not despite of the rise of big data, machines, robotics, electronics, computing and artificial intelligences. We become what our machines cannot. We do what can’t be outsourced. Faith is our future. Magic is our delight. Atheists are on the wrong side of history. (Unknown: as our new machines liberate us from fact and thought, just like our old machines relieved us of the burden of labor, will we continue to focus on interacting with a malleable material world or instead on a malleable cosmic consciousness?)
The past is rapidly becoming unknowable. More unknowable than the future. This will lead to a transformative break in human values.
A new age demands new storytelling. I aim for my works to contain lyrical insights, jagged cuts, a bursty flow of consciousness, hyper-awareness, and crafted so that the reader may enter the story at any point without loss. Yes, really.
I rely on fiction because it is timeless while facts are increasingly throwaway.
The Bible is a makers guide. The fantastical tales in the Bible, all its stories of magic and godly powers, whether you believe in God or not, are being made real by our technology. Your disbelief is not relevant. Will we use our creations to walk with God, or defy him?
This is ((year 22)) of a 40-year technology-driven, planet-altering, life-transforming deluge.
To rage against the machine is our most human.
